The Asylum That Is My Mind
You could say he’s a Ravenclaw because of his intellect, but I disagree. Slytherin are ambitious and want power. Sherlock may be clever, but he uses that intelligence to gain control over other people. He uses it to manipulate others into giving out information so he can solve cases, and he uses it so Lestrade will respect him and let him help on the crimes.
Simply being smart doesn’t make someone a Ravenclaw, and I’ve always saw Sherlock as a Slytherin.
Interesting points are being made…*taps chin* As of yet I am still undecided. My post about Ravenclaw Sherlock earlier was merely a defence of the idea, I was saying that it was not dumb or irrational to think Sherlock was a Ravenclaw. However, these Slytherin!Sherlock posts are very compelling…
I shouldn’t even be jumping in, but fuck it.
The reasons pointed out above, while certainly indicative of a Slytherin, are merely a means to an end. Why does Sherlock manipulate people? Why does he ever seek to gain control over people? To solve the puzzle. If the end of the road were power and ambition, I would agree and say he’d be a Slytherin, but because he’s in it for the challenge, for the stimulation it provides his mind, I would say he’s a Ravenclaw.
Though, that’s just me.
Yes I agree with JM. I think Sherlock’s motivations, at the end of it, are not self-serving but serving knowledge. He’s not ambitious for power or for personal gains, he is only ambitious when it comes to seeking out answers. Which is definitely Ravenclaw. I think Mycroft (BBCroft anyway) is Slytherin, because while he may detest legwork he is certainly not LAZY. He hasn’t just fallen into his position and he uses his resources well to make things happen. And he, I believe, has the ambition and drive to remain on top.
Just gonna reiterate the point that if Sherlock cared about knowledge, he would probably know that the earth moves around the sun. As it is, he only cares about the answer and that is distinctly separate. If you look at the concept objectively, in terms of a quest — Sherlock will do anything to achieve his goal (of solving the puzzle, yes, but that isn’t the point).
I love that everyone cares about this crossover enough to debate this. x3

Equally though you could say he appreciates and uses his intelligence for intelligence’s sake, and Mycroft is actually the Slytherin of the brothers because he’s the one who went for political power and control? :|a /DEVIL’S ADVOCATE
